Advertising a Bad Idea

I realized that trying to allow Google to post ads on this blog, so I could make a few cents a month, was a bad idea when I saw ads for making money on Marcellus Shale gas.

Life, Liberty, Happiness

There is no point in waiting for national or international events to "fix" the looming ecological, social, and economic crises bearing down on us. It's past time for Lancaster to start seeing itself as something of a city-state; only on a local scale is change truly possible. Only on a local scale does democracy have the potential to truly flourish.

Already the old Earth has been demolished by an impossible dream of endless growth. The new Eaarth has arisen in its place. We must learn to live here.

We need an independent local economy that is sustainable, provides for the livelihood of all Lancastrians, and that conserves and restores the natural ecosystems that Lancaster was once endowed with. This economy must recognize the natural limits to growth, and must change the vision from one of impossible endless growth to one personal fulfillment. As the founders wrote:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all [wo]men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

Notice no mention of plasma TVs nor the endless debt with which to finance their acquisition.
